PUBLIC WORKS BULLETIN BOARD
The goal of this home page is to be a daily news letter, a bullet-in board, method to inform people what is being proposed or what is going on in the various areas that Public Works is involved. It will be also used as an educational tool to teach people and make them sensitive, to care for, to want to improve their community welfare and well being. It is a method and an opportunity for your positive input, suggestions to better our community and public works.
It is also a mechanism for people to vent their complaints, and an opportunity to whine on things that bother them. Positive critisim is good to evaluate issues for correction. We all need to learn confict resolution as a way to deal with, evaluate the many social issues, problems we have in order to move our community ahead effectively. Without conflict resolution and evaluation we cannot have positive community development.

Fire Hall
The fire hall needs a lot of work to make it functional. It has to be hooked up to sewer and water this summer. The place has become a Band warehouse and we have a lot of materials that do not belong in there.The goal is to remove all the materials and take them to the other warehouses. The fire hall is suppose to be fully independent with it's own kitchen, bedrooms,office.exercise room. In the big cities fireman live in the fire stations for quick emergency response. They have a bigger budget than us to pay the firemen and equipment. The commuinity of Cat Lake should seriously consider and find a budget for aleast one full time trained fireman.
Mini-Gym
Anyway we were thinking of making a mini-gym in the upstairs part of the fire hall for guys&gals who want to get in shape. The equipment could be use by broomball players,hockey players, and people with diabetes. I recently bought a Bowflex and will set it up there. Edith's threadmill, stationery bike will also be there. If any one has a old barbell set or exercise equipment we could use them. If you adults/youth want something to do you could come and exercise.We are planning to charge a small door fee for the use of gym. There is a kitchen in the fire hall and we will have coffee and tea if you want something to drink.I will let you know when the mini-gym is set up via this homepage.
Hydro Hook-ups
This is finally done. There is some wrong when you are trying to hook up in February.
Back Hoe (Exacator) The mechanic was in to work on it. It's okay now but we still have some sensors/master switch fuse acting up. They will ship up new sensors to fix that problem.
NEWS & INFORMATION:
This year Public Works and Council decide to call for a public tender for this year housing packages. We fax out call for proposals to 5 different building suppliers. This is a process used to get competive pricing.

Winter Road Update...The weather forecast does not look good the next 2 weeks for winter roads. It will be above "0" degrees
Winter road travel could come very serious if you are not properly prepared for trip. Make sure you are equipped and fully ready for the trip. Inform people when you expect to arrive and phone some one once you reach your destination.
Winter road does not mean " MILLER TIME " Do not drink and drive.
BAND EQUIPMENT
It seems that we have a long way to go before we can have a decent equipment maintenance program to keep all Band equipment running effectively. I spend 12 years with M.T.O. and what we were taught is that you have to constantly service equipment to keep them operable. This is where we lack and we can see the results. The diesel fuel has to be always clean and tank always kept full to prevent condensation. On diesel machines you have to put in diesel fuel conditioner every time you fill. At this moment we have 3 diesel equipment that don't run,
- Septic truck, Big Fuel truck, and School bus.
- Old Mack truck in front of the garage was badly vandalized, this old truck was running good. It will now cost $$$$ to repair it. Remember it's costs the whole community when a few individuals wreck things.
It is important that all equipments filters are changed regularly.
- (oil, fuel,air, hydraulic, coolant filters and water separators.)
Regular maintenance is expensive but there are serious consequences when we fail to maintain them too. Bad equipment operating judgements causes unneccessary costs too.
We need to develop Band vehicle policies and guidelines to ensure that all Band equipment are properly used and maintained.
The 3 pieces of equipment (backhoe,dozer,loader) bought last year cost over $500.000.00 dollars. If these are not looked after their value will decrease very quickly. This was initiated by former Chief Ron Wesley and Russel Ombash EDO at that time.
GARAGE/TOOLS
We have a huge mouse problem as most of the tools,equipment that were bought by BDO are gone. Herb said that they purchased over $20,000.00 dollars worth of tools last year. To be blunt "someone is borrowing them forever or stealing them" This dishonesty creates a problem for our community garage to provide service and be fully effective. It seems no one cleans up after their mess too and they leave the tools,equipment,their garbage scattered all over after they are finished with the garage.
As of February 1, 2010 these policies and guidelines will be inplemented to prevent further problems.
- Individuals to book garage use in advance, garage will be available only if there is room in the garage.
- A refundable $ 50.00 cash security payment if you are going to use garage. (8:00-5:00 daily) Will be returned if you clean up garage after your use to the satisfaction of O&M Manager.
- Person to be responsible for garage security during their use.
- Persons using garage must bring their own tools to fix their own vehicle.
- Persons borrowing things must sign out equipment,and time it will be returned. ( not to be given to someone else too.)
These policies, guidelines are put in to ensure and prevent that Band garage, tools, equipment are not destroyed or stolen. Why should the Band keeping on buying or repairing items if we can't keep look after what we got?
NEW SCHOOL UPDATE
The schedule for the new school is:
Materials and contract award 2010-2011
Summer of 2011
- sewer & waterline extension, schoolsite preparation,
- 40 housing lots extension west of MTO
Summer of 2012
Material and contract award 2011-2012
- Construction of school 2012
We have to wait 2 more years for our school. That sucks.
POLICE STATION
The new police station is coming in this year on the winter road. This is a modular constructed building and will come up on the winter road this year 2010. It should be arriving soon. They will put it together quickly and should be operational by March they say. It will be put up on those steel pipes with steel pads between warehouse and Gray's Motel.
Dust Control for this summer:This was not approved by Council
GED Upgrading There are organizations willing to come up to do upgrading for the community but we need a residence for teacher,classroom space,room for internet,computers etc.
